Freedom of the City to NIAS by Lisburn City Council - 12 May 2007 [22/05/07 @ 11:00]
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) was very priviliged to receive the award of the Freedom of the City by Lisburn City Council on 12 May 2007. The ceremony took place on Saturday, 12 May 2007 beginning at 9.45am with a cavalcade of Ambulance Service vehicles travelling through the town centre and arriving at the Civic Centre, where the conferral ceremony followed soon after 10.20am. The conferral was then followed by a tree planting ceremony, mock Road Traffic Collision demonstration by ambulance personnel, an individual presentation to NIAS staff made by the Mayor, Councillor Trevor Lunn, a ballon launch by the Lady Mayoress and a Civic Luncheon for all guests.

Over 80 NIAS personnel attended the event which included a cross representation of staff from across the Service throughout Northern Ireland and a large number of Lisburn Station based staff (past and present). It was a very proud day for the Service. Other guests on the day included Lord Wright, Councillors and other distinguished guests.
Mr Liam McIvor, Chief Executive stated - "I would wish to formally record what a great honour and privilege it is for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service to be awarded Freedom of the City of Lisburn. It is my great pleasure as Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service to accept this award on behalf of Ambulance Staff, past and present and I consider it a personal privilege to be able to represent them in this setting......... The award today is a great honour for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and in particular for the men and women who constitute that service. Through this award the City of Lisburn invite us to celebrate our distinguished past and join them in delivering our shared future with an ambulance service contributing to a safer community and a better quality of life in Northern Ireland through first class out of hospital emergency, non-emergency and disastrous services."
The award of the Freedom of the City was conferred by Councillor Trevor Lunn, Mayor of Lisburn City Council and accepted on behalf of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service by Mr Liam McIvor, Chief Executive.
NIAS were also presented with a silver casket and scroll along with a miniature bronzed horse and cart depicting early ambulance transportation.
Consultation Document - Disability Action Plan [03/05/07 @ 10:00]
Under Section 49A of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA 1995) (as amended by Article 5 of the Disability Discrimination ( Northern Ireland ) Order 2006), the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) is required when carrying out its functions to have due regard to the need to:
- promote positive attitudes towards disabled people; and
- encourage participation by disabled people in public life (‘the disability duties').
Under Section 49B of the DDA 1995, the NIAS is also required to submit to the Equality Commission a Disability Action Plan showing how it proposes to fulfil these duties in relation to its functions.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service wishes to consult with interested parties on its Draft Disability Action Plan. Comments in relation to this Draft Plan should be forwarded to:
